Responsible for providing professional nursing care for office patients following established standards and practices. Assists physicians and staff in coordinating patient care. Functions as primary liaison between patients, staff and physicians.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Complies with all HIPAA and OSHA regulations and policies.
Provides general nursing care to patients. Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with nursing standards.
Maintains exam rooms for necessary supplies and materials. Ensures cleanliness. Prepares list of medical supplies needed. Prepares equipment and aids physician during treatment, examination and testing of patients.
Observes, records, and reports patient's condition and reaction to drugs and treatments to physicians. Dispenses medication as directed. Schedules surgery if necessary. Educates patient/family about diagnostic procedures, medications, nutrition and maintenance of health and wellness.
Ensures appointment preferences are given to patients in emergency situations. Greets patients and prepares them for physician examination. Screens patients for appropriate information. Takes and records vital signs and weight. Instructs patients in collection of samples and tests.
Assists physicians with examinations, diagnostic procedures and treatments.
Maintains/reviews patient records, charts and other pertinent information. Posts tests and examination results.
Reviews patient history as required by physician guidelines.
Responds to/refers incoming patient treatment-related phone calls. Instructs patient and family regarding medications and treatment instructions.
Maintains patient confidentiality.
Performs duties of triage nurse as required.

Knowledge and Skills Required:

Knowledge of professional nursing theory, regulations and practices to give and evaluate patient care.
Knowledge of policies and procedures relating to infection control, environmental safety and patient confidentiality.
Knowledge of medical chart reporting/records.
Skill in applying and modifying the principles, methods and techniques of professional nursing to provide ongoing patient care.
Skill in identifying problems and recommending solutions.
Skill in preparing/maintaining records, writing reports and responding to correspondence.
Ability to start an IV.
Ability to maintain quality control standards.
Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
Ability to communicate clearly.
Ability to work effectively as a team member with physicians and other staff.
Ability to appropriately interact with patients and patients’ family members.
Ability to be flexible as required by changing office demands.

Education and Work Experience:

RN or LPN degree, BSN preferred.
Minimum of 2 year professional nursing experience, medical office experience preferred.

Certificates and Licenses Required:

State of Ohio nursing licensure

ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS:

Combination of office and exam offices. Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, bodily fluids, toxic substances, medicinal preparations. Hepatitis B vaccination and TB test required.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS:

Varied activities including sitting, walking, stooping, lifting, bending, reaching. Occasional stress from workload. Must be able to use a variety of office equipment including phone, writing instruments, PC, fax and medical equipment including stethoscope, Xray machine, eye washing equipment, blood pressure cuff.
