Medical Biller - Full Time

This is a clerical position that involves the filing and tracking of insurance claims and informing patients of their account status, along with medical billing / coding. Work is performed in accordance with NOMS policies and procedures/applicable federal and state laws. Effective performance requires independent action under general supervision.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Process insurance and disability claims in a timely manner.
- Follows up with insurance companies ensuring that claims are paid correctly.
- Follows up with patient on balances, sets up payment plans if needed.
- Maintains strict confidentiality related to medical records and other data.
- Participates in professional development efforts to ensure currency in health care practices and trends.
- Answers patients’ inquiries regarding account balances.
- Daily use of phone
- Provide monthly summary reports to physicians, CEO, CFO, and Director-CBO
- Other duties as assigned
Skills And Knowledge:
- Knowledge of NOMS policies and procedures
- Knowledge of medical diagnostic coding system, medical terminology and insurance practices.
- Verifiable ability to input data into computer system with reasonable speed and accuracy.
- Ability to organize and process work efficiently.
- Proven multi-tasking capability.
- Ability to work under stress with frequent interruptions.
- Ability to independently assume other responsibilities in addition to routine duties.
- Must be a team player and self-motivator.
- Knowledge of computer programs and applications
Education And Work Experience:
- High school graduation or GED.
- Prefer past medical office billing experience. Typing ability and Word processing/computer skills.
- Minimum of one-year medical billing preferred.
- ASC billing experience preferred
Physical/Mental Demands:
- Sitting 6-8 hours/day. Requires use of computer equipment.
