Responsible for overseeing processing of office professional charges including updating of procedure and diagnosis codes in database and maintaining fee tickets.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Complies with all HIPAA and OSHA regulations and policies.
Maintains fee ticket system including creating, updating and printing tickets as necessary.
Gathers, audits, corrects office fee tickets including checking for accurate patient demographic information and total charges by monitoring patient’s chart to verify ticket information.
Works with medical staff to resolve coding issues and associated problems.
Scans appropriate patient paperwork into charts and completes all patient form requests.
Assists in greeting, screening, scheduling and directing patients. Assists patients in completing all necessary forms.
Performs secretarial/clerical duties, including medical composition.
Prepares and processes correspondence. Answers routine medical inquiries and drafts letters.
Performs front desk duties as necessary. Answers telephone, screens calls, takes messages, and provides information.
Obtains, verifies, and updates patient information and provides support services to patients and clinical staff.
Requests, locates, sends, and receives patient’s medical records.
Participates in educational activities
Maintains strictest confidentiality.
Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills:

Knowledge of coding policies and procedures
Knowledge of health insurance processing and clinical operating policies.
Skill in identifying and resolving problems.
Skill in using computer coding programs and systems.
Ability to examine patient insurance documents for accuracy and completeness
Ability to communicate effectively and clearly.
Ability to work effectively with patients and co-workers.
Ability to communicate effectively and clearly.

Education and Work Experience:

High school graduation or GED.
Typing ability and Word processing/computer skills.
Minimum of two years medical coding experience.

Environmental/Working Conditions:

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. May view computer screens for long periods of time. Involves frequent contact with staff and patients. Work may be stressful at times. Contact may involve dealing with angry or upset patients.

Physical/Mental Demands:

Work is typically performed at a desk or table requiring the use of standard office equipment. Intermittent sitting, standing and stooping. Can experience severe stress related to tense employees and critical Central Billing Office decisions. Requires use of computer equipment. Manual dexterity for using calculator and computer keyboard.
