ATC / DME Field Service Representative

This position will serve as a physician extender in the physician clinics, coordinating patient flow and supporting the physicians as directed to ensure timely delivery of quality care. The certified athletic trainer will work alongside physicians, athletic trainers, and nurses to provide elite care to the patients of NOMS Healthcare. This position will also provide on-site management of the NOMS DME program for orthopedic physician practices.  Under the direct supervision and orders of the physicians, the Field Services Representative will provide proper fitting and education of orthopedic durable medical equipment (DME) to patients, gather necessary paperwork to facilitate billing on behalf of the practice, collect payments at the time of service, and keep track of inventory dispensed.  The Field Services Representative will provide the highest level of customer service to patients, physicians, and all practice and surgery center personnel, and strive to meet performance goals of NOMS Healthcare.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs appropriate patient intake for a variety of medical and musculoskeletal conditions. This includes, but is not limited to, thorough history of condition or injury, chief complaint, assessment of pain level, completion and / or review of past medical history, family history, and social history, and medication reconciliation.
  • Performs appropriate physical examination per patient history and chief complaint. This includes but is not limited to palpation of the affected area and unaffected area, range of motion testing, strength testing / manual muscle testing / dynamic muscle testing, myotome/dermatome testing, ligamentous stress testing, or functional testing.

At direction of supervising physician, orders appropriate diagnostic testing or follow- up care that includes but is not limited to: x-rays, MRI, CT scan, EMG, diagnostic ultrasound, rehabilitation referrals, specialty referrals, and prescription medications.

  • Documents all aspects of evaluation, testing appropriately within the EMR.

Based on patient diagnosis, current activity level and patient care plan goal, collaborates with supervising physician to: I. develop and teach an appropriate home exercise program II. Appropriately choose and fit durable medical equipment III. Fabricate and apply custom splint or cast IV. Fit patient with any other rehabilitation equipment / implement (TENS, bone stim, etc) V. educate patient as to why any of the above or combination of the above is included in the plan of care VI. appropriately remove casts / splints

  • Educate patients on insurance plans and provisions, financial responsibility, and collection of patient portion.

Other Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Insure that all necessary documentation is obtained as it relates to payer requirements, standard operating procedures, and the NOMS compliance program.
  • Perform patient/customer scheduling, education, order processing, delivery, and courtesy call back.
  • Actively promote and foster good relations interdepartmentally and with physician’s clinical and surgery center personnel, external case managers, payers, and suppliers.
  • Track and maintain durable medical equipment (DME) products for the location including inventory and equipment.
  • Comply with all elements of HIPAA, Medicare, Medicaid, and other required programs.
  • Develop and maintain site specific operational manual.
  • Take call after normal business hours as needed.
  • Local travel may be required for product delivery and pick-up.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education And Work Experience:

  • A bachelor’s degree; Master’s degree preferred.
  • 2+ years Athletic Training Experience
  • Experience with the application of durable medical equipment (DME) preferred
  • Valid driver’s license and proof of auto insurance required.
  • Must be certified by NATABOC and hold valid Ohio License as and Athletic Trainer

Physical/Mental Demands:

  • Must be able to assist with or transfer athletes of various weights/heights.
  • Must be able to push carts with athletic equipment on them.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time and have good mobility skills.
  • Must demonstrate ability to communicate to give adequate directions and instructions.
