People seek psychiatric help for many reasons. The problems can be sudden, such as a panic attack, frightening hallucinations, thoughts of suicide, or hearing "voices." Or they may be more long-term, such as feelings of sadness, hopelessness, or anxiousness that never seem to lift or problems functioning, causing everyday life to feel distorted or out of control.
Some of the many areas of psychiatric specialty at NOMS include:
Depression is a common and treatable illness caused by a multitude of factors ranging from chronic
pain, hormonal problems, life stresses or relationship problems. Our goal is to help patients find a medication, or combination of medications, that are effective with the least side effects. We also provide psychotherapy to assist patients in dealing with the life problems that are contributing to depression.
It can be difficult to distinguish bipolar disorder from straightforward depression. We offer a thorough diagnostic assessment and medication management for bipolar disorder. With the right medication and education, patients with bipolar disorder can live a normal, healthy life.
Anxiety can be debilitating and rob patients of joy. Medications can provide some anxiety relief. In addition to medication, we provide counseling to help patients overcome their fears and live with more freedom and less worry.
Dementia and Alzheimer's Disease
Memory problems can be devastating to a family. While there is no cure, medications can provide relief for upsetting and distressing symptoms, as well as slow the memory loss. We work with families on a plan to reduce unnecessary suffering for patients and their caregivers.
We enjoy working with women on a variety of life issues ranging from pregnancy and breastfeeding, parenting and relationship issues, to menopause and life transitions.
